After church on Sunday, we got some recommendations from the Pastor to visit Bradgate Park and Foxton Locks. The weather was still nice and we wanted to make the most of our time so we decided to just go, at least to one of them. While doing some quick research online, we decided on Bradgate Park.
Bradgate Park was a huge 830-acre park and the birthplace of Lady Jane Grey in 1537. She was nominated to be queen of England by a young kid king who overstepped the throne of his two half sisters, Mary and Elizabeth. He died and she was Queen for 9 days before the "council" said she no longer was and gave the crown to Mary. She probably didn't get the memo and signed some papers as the Queen which led her to a beheading for treason... royalty drama and a little unfair in my opinion. Poor girl was only 16 years old!
The park was so scenic and naturesque with random families of deer roaming around the park. The deer also meant tons of droppings. We really had to be careful of where we were walking so not to step in the little pellets.
There were also remains of the Bradgate House. From what was left of it, it really seemed like a stellar tudor-style mansion.
Across the way in the Park was also Old John tower built in 1784 by an earl of that time. It stood on the highest point in Leicestershire county, 690 feet above sea level. Quite the hike going uphill, we made it a short hill run to get in an additional spurt of extreme physical activity in addition to the walking. We had a nice time just sitting on this hill overlooking Leicester and beyond... more like catching our breath though.
After Bradgate, we were famished and went back into town for some grub. We decided on what Leicester does best, Indian! The restaurant was called Everest Dine specializing in Nepalese food, recommended to me by a colleague. It's so great to work for a food company, because most people who work for one is a foodie too. We had some really delicious curries, and probably went a bit lamb overload with 2 lamb starters (lamb chops and Lamb Choela) in addition to 2 lamb curries (one really spicy and one mild). I might have confirmed my hypothesis that lamb makes you excrete some foul odors. Both the husby and I were reeking for the next couple days after. But oh it was so delicious! Next time we'll need to cut back on the lamb and add some more protein variety. Poor him, when Indians say it's spicy... it's damn spicy! To protect his manhood, he ate the entire bowl of extremely HOT curry. I think he was crying a little bit...
At this we conclude. My husband has some insane flying skills! Hehe. Cheers!
I'm a spicy man!
